Role Summary                                                          

The Senior Manager, S&OP and Supply Chain Planning is responsible for S&OP, demand planning and supporting supply planning of local/co-manufactured SKUs within Canada. Other areas of focus will center around being a key supply interface to the global Supply Chain Planning organization, inventory investment, leveraging CPFR processes to effectively manage elements of the supply chain and will help support all Supply Chain aspects of acquisitions integration within Canada. Key metrics include demand planning accuracy, bias, fill rate, inventory turns, material write offs and shared metrics with CPFR such as in-stock, customer inventory velocity, OTIF and fines. This key role is broad based with the mandate to interface and collaborate with local functions, customers and the global organization to ensure that Canada Supply Chain priorities are aligned to business needs.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities  

Sales & Operation Planning:

  • Own and continually improve the S&OP process through a detailed time sensitive process that compliments the existing business format and financial planning process
  • Conduct monthly consensus forecast reviews with Sales, Marketing, Finance and Operations teams to validate and adjust current fiscal year forecasts gaining full alignment with business owners and executive management
  • Roll up and present various risks and opportunities to modify the sales call from sales, marketing and supply chain to provide a comprehensive picture of gross sales
  • Lead a team of demand planners as they prepare/lead baseline and promotions forecast discussions at various brand mix or demand segments at the consensus review meetings to gain agreement on demand plan
  • Establish and utilize best methods in creating forecasts at SKU level, account and/or regional level by leveraging the statistical forecast tool
  • Track/report forecast consumption to identify risks to sales estimates or impact to supply and drive actions to mitigate impact
  • Research data relevant to forecast development including historical data, trends, product life cycles and marketing/sales activities
  • Assist demand planners with evaluating the impact of promotional activity, trade inventory changes, consumptions trends, category trends, media and advertising plans or extended service level impacts and adjust statistical forecasts where necessary
  • Solid understanding of the forecast management process with linkages to inventory planning and management
  • Leverage the CPFR process to drive improved forecasts and fill rates
  • Establish annual forecast accuracy targets.  Measure monthly forecast error results verses established targets and identify and report on root cause for forecast errors below target

Supply Chain collaboration

  • Collaborate with customers, sales and CSP to ensure Church and Dwight customer strategies are advanced inside the customer
  • Collaborate with the CPFR and Customer Planning and Integration team to advance key customer strategies and actively engage to ensure successful implementation
  • Collaborate with CPFR and customer planning and integration teams to drive improvement in key customer metrics such as in stocks, inventory velocity and fines
  • Actively work to build relationships with key customer contacts inside customers replenishment team to be able to quickly remove barriers and advance C&D strategies via influence.
  • Identify systemic barriers to improved customer service and work cross functionally to improve for all customers
  • Accountable to drive supply chain improvement strategies and bring supply chain issues to the commercial negotiations

Department Management:

  • As a key part of the supply chain leadership team continually review team’s performance and act to develop the team and improve performance
  • Anticipate department needs and be able to propose department resource plans that fulfill the teams mandate
  • Support and mentor key people in supply chain to increase their leadership and influence skills
  • Responsibility for Critical Success Drivers (CSD’s) creation for staff ensuring metrics and objectives are aligned with key business and supply chain strategies
  • Actively participate on process improvement teams and lead improvements through-out the year by leveraging lean and six sigma methods

Supply Planning:

  • Support Supply Planning in executing the supply planning process providing clear direction to plants, co-manufactures and suppliers on Business needs.
  • Seeks ways to optimize the supply chain performance day to day, e.g. service vs. premium freight vs. inventory vs. schedule changes
  • Possess a detailed understanding of how supply chain planning decisions can impact the P&L and Balance Sheet
  • Develop collaborative relationships to influence global supply chain functions to ensure optimal supply and inventory performance
  • Ensure that product transitions and NPD launches execute per business plans

Inventory Management:

  • Possess a detailed understanding of how inventory metrics can impact financial metrics.
  • Drive best practice in inventory management seeking ways to improve inventory velocity, reducing material write offs and eliminating slow moving inventory.
  • Support inventory management to both days inventory outstanding and dollar targets with an understanding of cost to serve and customer service
  • Support review of monthly inventory plan
  • Collaborate with financial team to create valid inventory reserves
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to keep slow moving and remnant inventory at target or better
  • Work with other functions in supply chain to ensure inventory accuracy and compliance to controls
  • Provide strategic leadership to the new SKU approval process including approval hurdle management on supply chain metrics and development of implementation time lines

Education and Experience                                                          

  • BA in related field, MBA preferred
  • 7-10 years’ experience in Sales and Operation Planning, supply planning and overall supply chain operations
  • Outstanding leadership, negotiation and influence skills
  • Strong knowledge of Blue Yonder and/or other comparable forecasting software solution(s)
  • Excellent knowledge of SAP/APO
  • 5-7 years in Consumer-Packaged Goods environment is desirable
  • Solid understanding of lean and six sigma
  • Experience working within an international matrixed organization
  • Proven ability to influence customers and advance strategies inside Canadian retailers.
  • Experience implementing and improving collaboration processes with Customers
