Senior Manager - Global Toxicology & Product Safety (Remote)

Role Summary 

LOCATION: Remote - East Coast is preferred

The global Sr. Manager will lead, strategize and manage the safety evaluation  and documentation of raw materials and finished formulations developed by, or acquired by Church & Dwight Co., in compliance with global regulations and guidelines.

This individual will manage a diverse global product portfolio supporting PD Directors/Sr Directors for  at least 2 SBUs such as Personal  Care (Therabreath, Spinbrush, Toothpastes, Orajel, A&H/Arrid antiperspirants), Men-Women Health Medical Devices (Trojan, Replens/Rephresh, Femfresh), Hero Skin care products (medical devices and cosmetics), Hair Specialty (Batiste Dry Shampoo, Nair depilatories, Flawless, Toppik, Vivascal).

This position requires an in-depth working knowledge of toxicology and safety risk assessment principles, effectively and expediently identifying and managing changing scientific information, regulatory requirements, and customer demands related to product safety.  The individual provides leadership related to the prioritization and support of critical emerging safety issues that carry potential to impact the Church & Dwight  business. The individual will define the safety program strategy, influence the decision and alignment across Product Development, Marketing, Regulatory, Quality and Legal. The individual will be responsible for partnering with internal and external business functions and vendors throughout the life cycle in accordance with company SOPs, ICH/GCP, and all applicable local regulations. Candidates for this role must champion a culture of quality and continuous process improvement.

Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Manage and provide direction to multifunctional teams throughout product life cycle.
  • Develop a strong interface with and influence the other stakeholders, including Product Development, Regulatory, Legal and Marketing and New Product Innovation.
  • To assist in managing the long term mission of the group in evaluating raw materials and strategy and design of  clinical safety trials.
  • Review of health-related consumer events pertaining to products.
  • Provide the expertise required to defend Group's safety policy and projects before the relevant authorities and stakeholders.
  • Represent Safety and provide due diligence assessment for potential new product acquisitions
  • To work with senior management on safety-related issues in terms of company responses and positions on our products and safety protocols.
  • To assist in working towards the harmonization of safety testing protocols and determinations of the necessary evaluations needed for raw materials and finished products.
  • Follow toxicology-related issues to identify those that may have local and global regulatory impacts (e.g. US FDA, Health Canada, EU Anex, MDR-BER and CER, IFRA/RIFM, CIR) and other testing requirements of regulatory agencies).
  • Represent Church & Dwight in trade associations and other external task forces and monitor key safety-related issues related to company interest and make recommendations to management regarding possible courses of action.
  • Defend key ingredients to regulatory authorities and public interest groups.
  • Lead the development of technical solutions & options to mitigate potential risks to Project Teams and where appropriate escalate.

Education and Experience

  • PhD in Toxicology or related field, with 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • DABT and ERT strongly desirable.
  • Consistent record of strategic planning and ability to partner and influence cross-functional department partners.
  • Excellent knowledge of human and environmental safety of diverse portfolio including cosmetic, personal care, OTC drug and medical device products.
  • Experience working collaboratively with coworkers and external partners.

Skills and Competencies

  • Ability to develop and implement complex safety strategies and translate strategy into action plans and testing programs.
  • Ability to influence and persuade, to analyze, define and effectively convey difficult and complex issues in a way that accurately and persuasively communicates practical solutions and actions  to internal and external stakeholders, including Senior Management.
  • Ability to prioritize and to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and to build relationships across disciplines.
  • Previous people management experience along proven with cross-functional team leadership.
  • Proven situational leadership skills & ability to forge strong relationships with colleagues
  • Skills to work cohesively & constructively as a Global Product Safety Department.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate within and across functional/department lines.
  • Proven capability to build strong relationships inside and outside the company.
