The Chemist will provide technical knowledge of the development/ qualification/ implementation of new products for our global women’s health medical device products. This is a hybrid work schedule working on the First Response, Replens, RepHresh, and Preseed Brands. The Chemist will have a good understanding of product development of diagnostic and/or formulated products and associated technologies, as well as methods of manufacture. The Chemist will be able pursue research projects with supervision, synthesize information and data to draw appropriate conclusions and help with development directions, and serve as the Technical Project Lead on product development initiatives.
Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities
- Conducts bench top formulation, device assembly, and testing. Designs and reviews experimental plan with supervisor, conducts experiments, analyzes data and presents findings to draw conclusions and recommend direction
- Works with cross-functional teams to refine new product ideas, conduct research and testing, transfer technical information to pilot lab and manufacturing sites, and launch new products under the direction of the Program Manager
- Supports marketed products by updating and maintaining electronic product specifications, design history files, and relevant documentation to maintain operational continuity and remain relevant amongst competitive set
- Maintains complete and accurate records of experimental studies in lab notebook and provides timely reports
- Adheres to and follows procedures for working in laboratory designated for the development of FDA regulated medical devices. Assists in maintaining laboratory compliance including equipment maintenance and chemical labeling
- Reviews scientific literature, competitive space, and networks with vendors to maintain current knowledge of new developments in the category, competitive products, and supplier technologies
- Attends meetings and trainings to maintain and enhance knowledge of immunoassay technology and product formulation
Education and Experience
Successful candidate will have a BS or MS degree from an accredited institution in biochemistry/chemistry/biology or related discipline with 2+ years of industry experience in a related technical field.
Skills and Competencies
- Possesses general technical knowledge in immunoassay and/or product formulation with the ability to suggest experiments, analyze data, draw conclusions, and recommend actions
- Basic knowledge of basic FDA regulatory requirements for medical devices preferred
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Projects may include both laboratory and documentation needs.
- Uses good judgment in priority calls with guidance from supervisor to meet project objectives
- Ability and interest in working in cross-functional environment involving marketing, manufacturing operations, consumer research, and regulatory
- Excellent written and oral skills with ability to deliver topline reports to management
- Exhibits strong organizational, planning, prioritizing, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and report findings to supervisor
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks within assigned projects and work with supervisor to manage assigned projects
