Role Summary                                                           

The candidate for this position will be a highly seasoned and proven professional with extensive managerial and technical leadership experience.   The candidate would have demonstrated consistent positive impact on an R&D business area over an extended period of time.  The position requires the ability to manage multiple business segments on multiple fronts simultaneously.  The role also requires long term strategic thinking to develop pipelines for business units, requiring the ability to influence and driving initiatives through the SBU and platform teams.  The candidate will be accountable for a technical staff of varying levels of experience as well as setting the direction for long term R&D platform teams. The candidate will be an expert at balancing consumer, technical, and business needs as well as adept at making key decisions that could ultimately decide the success or failure of a product line.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities                                                   

  • Direct staff in consumer centric design of Home Care products including Value and Premium Cat Litter, Pet Wellness Adjacencies, Baking Soda, and Cleaners within the defined cost structure and launch term.
  • Direct a group of technical individuals. Design staffing requirements and origination to meet the business needs. Coach and review subordinates to advance their skillsets and careers appropriately.
  • Manage multiple cost centers within budget providing quarterly ppr updates and adjustments as required.
  • Be the viewed as the lead for Home Care R&D with business partners including Marketing, Operations, Supply Chain and Quality.
  • Participate in the Sr. R&D leadership team and contribute to the overall R&D strategy and implement agreed upon processes and protocols as necessary.
  • Represent R&D as a “Strategic Business Unit” Head and host regular meetings across R&D and the organization making priority and resourcing decisions for all R&D programs that relate to Home Care including base business support, cost savings, innovation, new product development, and packaging.
  • Coordinate R&D SBU activities across all R&D functions.

Education and Experience                                                           

  • The preferred candidate will have a BS/MS/Phd degree from an accredited institution in related sciences and 10+ years of related industrial/technical experience as well as and multiple years of proven managerial experience.
  • Ideally candidate will have prior experience in Pet Care R&D.  Candidate cannot be hindered by a non-compete in Pet Care.

Skills and Competencies

  • Proven leadership abilities and thorough understanding of product development and all associated protocols.
  • Proven prioritization and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple and concurrent projects with aspects within and outside of R&D.
  • Ability to manage multiple levels of subordinates and champion the hiring and firing as required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence Sr. Leadership is desired.
