Summary Description:

Provides leadership and coordination for new product development in accordance with targeted price objectives and project schedules. Provides team facilitation related to standard costing, tooling, assembly, capital etc. Provides technical support for customer complaints and return.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handles Project Engineering duties under the supervision of the Manger, Project Management China, and the Sr. Manager, China Operations.
  • Participates in new product design DDR together with USA teams and supplier.
  • Works with China and USA product development teams for all Waterpik development projects and reports to USA team on project progress, issues, and solutions in time.
  • Work with suppliers and USA team on NPD prototypes, specs, drawings, tooling, scheduling, EB, pilot run and quality.
  • Leads new product development of EB, pilot run process at manufacturing sites and has EB, pilot run issues addressed effectively with USA team and suppliers by using project e-tracking form.
  • Creates Product Quality Plans (PQP) during the New Product Development process.
    • Works closely with suppliers in new product process workmanship, equipment, fixtures and gage/jigs requirements and definitions.
    • Reviews supplier new product manufacturing Flow Chart, Work Instruction, QAIP etc. are properly and adequately.

Review EB/pilot run data of manufacturing sites and provides suggestion with Design Engineer for drawing, FUS etc. update.

  • Identifies key processes and works with suppliers and Design and Manufacturing Engineer to develop process checks with proper and capable equipment/tool/gage/tester during the NPD process.
  • Works with Quality Engineer to ensure PQP Self Audit and FG Final Inspection are thorough and complete prior to production authorization and First Shipment Authorization.
  • Evaluates new potential materials, products, and sources for current and future products.  
  • Coordinates and manages specifications and drawings (Both supplier and internal)
  • Assesses product designs changes and tracks ECO (Engineering Change Order) implementation with the suppliers.
  • Leads product qualification and re-qualification on new products.
  • Provides problem analysis and resolution for customer’s failure and returns.
  • Accomplishes related special projects as assigned.
  • Conducts all activities in a manner that is at all times fair, moral, ethical and legal.  
  • Conducts all business activities in a manner consistent with the guiding principles and business practices contained in the Ethics code.
  • Be responsible for current product transferred to different manufacturing area like Southeast Asia suppliers but not limited.
  • Other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

  • 40% - Work with US and China product development team closely to support new product development with an emphasis on schedule and cost. Develop new product quality processes and lead various EB building, testing and pilot run. Create PQP and lead new product qualification test at OEM suppliers. Follow up supplier and FTC team closely on EB/pilot run issues addressed effectively and timely to make sure project milestone meeting.
  • 30% - Follow up with Suppliers: Prototypes, Specs, Drawings, Tooling, Schedules, Samples, and Quality 
  • 25% - Work with cross functional teams (China and USA) to ensure products can ship on time and meet the target market requirements for functionality and reliability. 
  • 5% - Maintaining current and developing new supplier relationships.

Operating Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Must be an organized self-starter with very strong decision-making ability. 
  • Must have a strong persistence to debate and challenge the cross-functional environment for the above described duties and responsibilities
  • Must possess effective interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience of working within a manufacturing and Quality Systems Management project environment.
  • High level of project co-ordination skills with the successful project implementation and delivery within agreed objectives, budget and timeframes.
  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, with the ability to analyze complex information.
  • Experience developing and implementing quality assurance/quality control programs.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Confident and clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage with a diverse range of individuals across all levels and functions.

Training & Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in engineering or science.

Experience Requirements:

  • 6-10 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering, production, product development, supply chain management and quality management. 
  • Technical capability to include design for manufacturing, plastic injection tooling, molding, assembly line, testing, production planning and lean manufacturing principles and techniques.

Reporting Relationship: Reports directly to the Manager, Project Management China. Works closely with the Sr. Manager, China Operations, and Business Category Directors, Project Manager and Design Engineering in FTC.

Supervisory Duties: None.
