Role Summary                                                          

Responsible for developing, initiating and maintaining the production plan and production schedule, the coordination of scheduled engineering changes and new product releases for the assigned items.  Responsible for managing the data integrity in company MRP software and the Oracle system.  Supports manufacturing through production planning and timely requisition of raw materials and sales through inventory management and buying of Purchased Finished Goods.   Supports company goals by working creatively within the operations and sales operations groups to reduce inventories and improve customer service levels.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities                                                

  • Work creatively to improve customer service levels and reach company goals.  Challenge existing systems and offer meaningful alternatives.
  • Perform functions associated with planning company procedures.
  • Manage and maintain data integrity/parameters in company MRP software, eportal and Oracle system.
  • Develop inventory strategies to support company goals.
  • Review production capacity requirements and make adjustments to build levels as needed.
  • Monitor capacity and alert management of issues as needed.
  • Manage shortages/backorders and expedite product as needed.
  • Manage product end-of-life with sales operations team to ensure lowest possible cost to the company.
  • Review excess inventory report from Finance and provide feedback for reserves.
  • Initiate and follow through, from start to finish, Item Inactivation Forms (IIF) to scrap excess or obsolete inventory.
  • Purchasing functions including development/management of good supplier relationships, MRO purchase orders, purchase of raw materials, dummy units, and displays, blanket order setup, release of firm planned orders, monitoring and responding to MRP messages, and processing vendor returns.
  • Understand the purchasing and production sections of the manufacturing agreements for specific suppliers being working with.
  • Monitor daily fulfillment report, events, weekly AIMs, and planner reports and take appropriate actions.
  • Manage daily communication with suppliers and work closely to manage the daily business.
  • Manage monthly on-time delivery scores for supplier scorecards.
  • Work with sales operations/customer service and suppliers to fulfil Build-to Order (BTO) and provide best dates on Sales Inquires (SIF).
  • Manage PTO (Pack-to-Order) and rework jobs with warehouses.
  • Complete AFRs (Air Freight Request) and RIFs (Rework Inquiry Form) with information from various other departments and communicate to suppliers/warehouse as needed.
  • Manage part number changes/transitions to minimize excess raw material and finished goods inventory, while maintaining customer service levels.
  • Question unusual changes forecast to ensure system is accurate.
  • Manage inventory with expiration dates through reports and ensure the organization is aware of upcoming expirations with a risk of scrap.
  • Manage supplier component safety stock to reduce risk. 
  • Work with supplier and accounts payable on any invoice discrepancies.
  • Review and confirm cost standards annually.
  • Manage Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) inventory, as assigned.
  • Create work orders for in house production lines.
  • Close monthly work orders for in house production, as needed.
  • Pursue opportunities to reduce raw material costs.
  • Responsible for following quality system procedures.  Assists in procedure development when required.  Ensures product quality and takes appropriate action when non-conformances are identified.  Keep accurate records as required.
  • Support New Product Development (NPD) as needed.
  • Accomplish related special projects as assigned.
  • Conduct all activities in a fair, ethical manner which is in compliance with all corporate policies.
  • Any other activity/task deemed appropriate by management team.

Operating Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities                                                        

  • Strong self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Team building skills that include effective communication and gaining consensus to meet objectives.
  • Organization and planning skills that include the ability to establish priorities, handle several projects at once, give close attention to detail, use strong analytical skills, use logical thought process and be willing to investigate all problems in depth.
  • Desire and ability to achieve results despite obstacles.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner with outsourcing/overseas suppliers.

Education and Experience                                                          

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four year college degree in Business or equivalent experience
  • Total ten years minimum combined experience in two or more of the following areas: operations, purchasing, planning, inventory management, logistics, quality, or manufacturing.

Required Training

  • Possess off shore/Asia manufacturing/planning experience.
  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise manner with outsourcing/overseas suppliers.
  • Multiple manufacturing line planning.
  • Understanding of the process for new product development.
  • Ability to work with PC programs in general and specifically with MRP systems, portal web based planning programs and know how to use formulas in MS Excel.
  • Understanding of how Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems calculates requirements and the various safety stock methods.
  • Understand how Chinese New Year affects the production plan and the methods to plan extended production shutdowns.
