Role Summary
The Senior Project Manager has primary responsibility of leading multi-functional teams to successfully execute complex projects by defining, planning and tracking key project deliverables. He/she is responsible for identifying key resources and providing the direction required for meeting the project objectives. He/she may also be tapped to lead large corporate projects related to mergers and plant needs.
He/She will also be responsible for Portfolio Management of the SBUs they are responsible for and lead Portfolio Review/Prioritization meetings to ensure effective resource management and project prioritization as needed.
As a Sr Manager, he/she will also have one or more Associates supporting him or her. He/she will be responsible for coaching and developing their direct reports and have overall accountability for successful execution of all PMO led projects within their SBUs.
He/She will also be responsible for working with the PMO Group Leader to develop and lead PMO process/systems improvements.
Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities (Describe the 5-7 major accountabilities)
Manage a portfolio of projects across several SBUs while understanding not only the intricacies of each project but how they interact and where synergies lie.
Establish clear priorities among activities and drive SBU leaders’ priorities throughout the portfolio.
Utilize PM tools to ensure appropriate key project documentation is prepared throughout project lifecycle (charters, business case, work orders, design input/output form, financial templates, etc.)
Utilize the PM tools to prepare, track, and report on the project plan/status
Identify project resource needs & work with PM leadership to ensure projects are properly supported
Lead weekly multi-functional team meetings - address issues, discuss status updates and action items, analyze risk and identify contingency plans. Arbitrate and resolve conflicts.
Involve functional expertise in design reviews and key decisions. Pull together the right information to help drive key project decisions
Manage changes to preserve business plan commitments. Initiate management reviews if objectives change.
Ensure all team members understand their roles and accept their responsibilities.
Perform ‘Lessons Learned’ after major launches and drive learnings into the management of future projects
Assist the PMO Group Leader with Stage Gate preparations
Provide input to help continuously improve the effectiveness of the PMO.
Coach and develop junior PMs.
Education and Experience
BA/BS Degree (science preferred) from an accredited institution
10+ years CPG industry experience (preferably R&D, Operations or Engineering) in PMO
OTC or regulated product categories experience preferred
PMP certified preferred but not required
Skills and Competencies
Excellent computer skills (PowerPoint, Excel Spreadsheets, Word, etc)
Experience successfully leading a portfolio of complex projects
Experience leading multi-functional team in a matrix organization
Excellent communication (oral and written) skills with experience presenting to Sr. Management.
Exceptional troubleshooting and problem resolution skills
Critical thinking and decision making skills
Project Management skills (MS Project, Gantt charts, cross-functional leadership).
Experience with a Stage and Gate product development process
Experience managing direct reports
