Open Innovation Lead – Contract Manufacturing (CM) Network

Role Summary                                                            

As an Open Innovation Lead in Church & Dwight, you will play a crucial role in driving innovation through collaboration with a network of contract manufacturers (CMs). This position requires a dynamic individual with a deep understanding of consumer products, a strategic mindset, and excellent leadership skills. Your primary focus will be on fostering a culture of open innovation, establishing and managing partnerships with contract manufacturers, and ensuring the successful integration of external capabilities into the organization's product development processes. You will be working with cross functional teams in R&D to identify and champion turn-key CM solutions in emerging areas. This individual will also own the portfolio of initiatives that fall within the CM Innovation area and ensure they are captured in the total R&D portfolio.   

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Strategic Partnership Development: 

  • Identify and evaluate potential CM partners aligned with the organization's strategic goals as part of the CM Partnership Program.  

  • Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders within the CM network. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand product requirements and align external capabilities with internal needs. 

  • Work collaboratively to prioritize, execute and develop a robust process for interacting with commercial partners with minimal internal resources. 

Open Innovation Culture: 

  • Cultivate an open innovation mindset within the organization, encouraging employees to explore external collaborations and partnerships. 

  • Develop and implement programs to promote CM generated ideas, knowledge sharing, and cross-functional collaboration. 

Project Management: 

  • Lead cross-functional teams in the successful execution of open innovation projects with contract manufacturers. 

  • Define project scopes, objectives, and deliverables, ensuring alignment with business objectives. 

  • Monitor project timelines, budgets, and performance metrics to ensure successful outcomes. 

Technology Scouting: 

  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovation opportunities within the consumer products sector. 

  • Conduct technology scouting to identify potential partners, solutions, and advancements that align with business objectives. 

Risk Management: 

  • Assess and mitigate risks associated with external collaborations, including intellectual property considerations, regulatory compliance, and supply chain resilience. 

  • Work closely with legal and compliance teams to ensure contractual agreements are robust and aligned with organizational standards. 

Communication and Reporting: 

  • Regularly communicate progress, milestones, and challenges to executive leadership and key stakeholders. 

  • Prepare comprehensive reports on the impact of open innovation initiatives, highlighting successes and areas for improvement. 

  • Be the primary point of contact with GMS to identify and ensure a robust CM supply network that delivers high quality commercial and innovative products. 

Education and Experience                                                            

  • B.S. or M.S. from an accredited institution, MBA Preferred.  

  • 3 – 5 yr. experience managing a Contract Manufacturer Network 

  • In-depth knowledge of the consumer products industry and manufacturing processes. 

  • Prior Open Innovation experience (Preferred)

  • Demonstrated organizational, work planning, and problem-solving skills 

  • Ability to evaluate technical data and engage cross functional subject matter experts. 

  • Able to assess external manufacturing capabilities 

  • Ability to represent Church & Dwight externally to engage partners. 

  • Strong oral and written communication skills
