Microbiologist - Days
Monday - Friday TBD - 8hr shift between 7:00am - 5:00pm, to be determined by supervisor and business needs.
The annual salary for this position is $51,900 to $81,200. This position is salaried non-exempt.

This highly visible position is located at our Vancouver, WA facility.
What you’ll do:
This position will be responsible for performing specialized and routine microbiological laboratory testing.
Essential Functions:
- Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), company policies, safety policies and practices, quality standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Responsible at all times for ensuring that tasks are performed according to food safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform the following routine testing of samples for microbial analysis using aseptic technique. Working with the lab supervisor to determine priority of samples before performing sample preparation, media preparation, solution preparation, plate reading, growth and sterility testing, gram staining and confirmation testing, and result entry into LIMS
- Assure that samples designated for microbial analyses are run and reported in a timely, accurate manner according to documented methods, policies, and SOPs. Working with the lab supervisor to determine priority of samples.
- Perform environmental sampling and testing in specified areas.
- Perform allergen testing by ELISA.
- Set up, adjust, operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Perform secondary review of data.
- Sterilize and clean laboratory equipment, glassware, and work areas.
- Properly handle and dispose of biohazard waste.
- Use Good Laboratory Practices and Good Documentation Practices in all laboratory activities
- Revise methods, policies, and forms as needed.
- Generate weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports then summarize large amounts of data using Excel.
- Log chemicals and standards into Chemical Tracker.
- Share responsibility for inventory and restocking of supplies for general laboratory needs.
- Seek opportunities to reduce routine laboratory costs by increased efficiency (higher throughput, decreased cost of supplies).
- Execute projects as assigned to meet changing laboratory needs and requirements.
- Share responsibility for general laboratory organization and cleanliness.
- Communicate relevant work details to Lab Supervisor and coworkers.
- Perform other related duties as required.
What you’ll need:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher level of education in microbiology, biology, or related field and at least one (1) year of experience working in a microbiology laboratory and with writing reports or equivalent combination of experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the job.
- Experience in a food or dietary supplement micro lab is highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of laboratory terminology, equipment, materials, and procedures.
- Ability to follow microbiology methods.
- Ability to perform standardized tests according to prescribed procedures and calculating and recording test results.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of general laboratory housekeeping and aseptic technique.
- Ability to maintain punctuality and predictable attendance.
- Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment and clean room attire when applicable; work in a standard office setting/laboratory and to use standard office equipment; maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; lift and carry up to 25 pounds; and perform work onsite in a typical interior/office or laboratory environment or a light industrial environment, including some exposure to non-toxic dust with no or very limited exposure to physical risk.
