General Summary:

Provides leadership, training, and coordination to improve and drive safety, quality and production results in the Compounding department. Leads and develops Compounding staff to succeed individually and as a department.

Functions:

  • Responsible at all times for promoting a safety culture and safety awareness within the Compounding Department.  Support and enforce all plant safety policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner.
  • Directs and coordinates all activities for multiple shifts in compounding materials and components, applying knowledge of operational methods, processes, machines and equipment, and operation capabilities.
  • Communicates with the Operations Manager and other key stakeholders regarding staffing levels, materials, machines, methods, and metrics.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, processing and maintenance problems to ensure cost, operating efficiency (OEE) and waste reduction goals are consistently achieved.
  • Responsible for ensuring required safety, quality, productivity, and operational training has been completed.
  • Develops cross-training and other developmental plans for staff. Ensures staff is proficient in all operational areas of Compounding. Performs follow-up meetings with employees throughout the training process.
  • Fosters positive employee relations and engagement through communications, practices, and actions. Directs and counsels with employees in daily operations and strategic problem solving.
  • Conducts daily audits to ensure continuous improvement and lean initiatives are executed and Lean Daily Management objectives are met.
  • Implements and maintains 5S standards throughout the Compounding Department.
  • Participates in the new hire process from interview through selection and provides recommendations to Manager and HR regarding disciplinary actions and terminations.
  • Leads Compounding team in the execution of applicable aspects of AM and TPM programs and processes.
  • Develops and updates standard operating procedures enabling efficient and effective training and operation.
  • Works with management and maintenance teams to identify, assess and implement cost savings and process improvement initiatives and projects. Leads Kaizen and Root Cause Analysis events to eliminate loss.
  • Ensure all hourly employees’ time is properly recorded in the payroll system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational/time management skills.
  • Able to effectively interact with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work for long periods of time, under pressure, to produce results.
  • Ability to operate a computer in a Windows-based environment and most office equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Results oriented.
  • Demonstrate ambiguity to change.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervisory / lead experience in a manufacturing or environment.
