POSITION DESCRIPTION

The individual will lead E-Commerce packaging development projects across multiple brands and packaging formats from initiation through manufacture (launch).  Projects will consist of modifications of current packaging for existing products as well as the innovative new packaging solutions for products.  Additional scope includes consideration of new, exploratory platforms including sustainable materials, controlled dispensing, refill and smart packaging for next-generational design and materials selection.

The individual will be representing the department in cross-functional SBU (Strategic Business Unit) team meetings for E-Commerce projects.  The individual will need to find solutions to problems, manage multiple priorities and expectations, and deliver to those expectations. The individual will have accountability to their Strategic Business Units (SBU areas) for packaging development and support.  Project deliverables need to assure that quality and consumer expectations are met while working with Supply Chain and Contract Partners to find economical manufacturing solutions

In addition to working within cross-functional teams, the individual will also work closely with quality, finance, procurement, regulatory, engineering, operations, consultants and outside vendors.

POSITION ACTIVITIES

  • Packaging project development using various materials:  fiberboard, corrugated, plastics, films
  • Execute projects with complete scope from primary through tertiary packaging development and meet the requirements of a wide range of online retailer requirements
  • Generation and execution of test plans and reports for submission to retail customers
  • Creation of solutions for efficient manufacturing on packaging production lines
  • Coordination and completion of qualification programs for new package designs and materials
  • Travel to vendor and manufacturing locations for support of packaging project activities
  • Hands-on evaluation of packaging for conformance to project requirements.  These activities can occur in warehouses and in packaging laboratory studies
  • Potential Supervision of Packaging Technicians or Packaging Engineers in the delivery of SBU projects

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

The successful candidate should have a minimum of 6 years of experience in package development, device or hard goods manufacturing.  A preference will be given to candidates that have experience in “consumer goods” packaging for Omni channel or E-Commerce solutions.

The candidate should have a minimum of a BS degree in Package Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Engineering sciences.

The ideal candidate’s experience must clearly demonstrate experience in many of the following areas:

  • Experience in primary through tertiary packaging development for new product launches
  • Management of projects and project teams towards commercialization of new products.
  • Experience with the requirements and testing protocols of Packaging solutions for E-Commerce retail customers
  • Coordination and completion of qualification programs for new package designs and materials
  • Fully developed skills in project management and experienced, cross-functional interactions
  • Understanding of LSS, SPC and DOE (design of experiments) and development of component specifications
  • Knowledge of FMEA (Failure Mode Effects Analysis)
  • Experience across an array of packaging materials / converting methods:
  • Corrugated containers
  • Folding cartons (solid fiberboard)
  • Plastic bottles and injection molded components
  • Flexible films and tubes

OTHER SKILLS NEEDED

  • Innovation based mindset to find new suppliers to deliver new solutions
  • Passion for consumer experience and understanding of enhanced opportunities through online retail
  • Awareness of Packaging Sustainability and selection of environmentally friendly solutions
  • Clear ability to organize and prioritize a number of Packaging projects
  • Effective leadership and supervisory skills
  • High interpersonal skills to influence partner functions within project team environment
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across the organization at multiple levels
  • A self-motivated and proactive personality with ambitions to “learn and deliver” within a fast paced,  “employee empowered” atmosphere
  • High competency in Microsoft applications and general computer usage.
