We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Food Safety Manager at our Vancouver and Ridgefield, Washington facilities!

Newly hired employees will receive our $2,,000 sign on bonus in $1,000 increments after 6 months and 9 months completion of employment! 

The Food Safety Manager is responsible for providing Food Safety leadership in the manufacturing, packaging and distribution areas. This includes leading the HACCP Team meetings, updating the food safety/defense plans, and ensuring preventive controls are in place and Critical Control Points are monitored.  Assembles the food safety plan and works with the plant team to ensure compliance to meet Regulatory and third-party certifications.  This position is responsible for managing the sanitation crews at each site.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), company policies, safety policies and practices, quality standards, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).

  • Promote a safety culture and awareness within their area of responsibility at all times, as well as throughout the plant.

  • Work with the Management Team to build and maintain a food safety culture at the site.

  • Manage the site HACCP and Food Safety/Food defense programs, including continuous audit/inspection of all facility locations:  incoming materials, warehousing, production, distribution, product returns, grounds, etc.

  • Lead HACCP Team Reviews and update plans accordingly.

  • Manage the Sanitation Department to maintain a sanitary environment, develop employees.

  • Conduct internal Hygiene audits and train audit teams, open events in Agile PQM system and ensure effectiveness of corrective actions.

  • Facilitate all foreign object and other product safety Event (EVT) investigations, including CAPA responses, product containment measures, and provide Corporate support.

  • Trend and report on all foreign object findings from control point devices and other monitoring sources (magnets, screens, detectors, visual, etc.).  Take action to drive down incident levels.

  • Monitor industry best practices and evaluate for use in the plant.

  • Produce quarterly program metrics report for review with plant and corporate leadership including recommendations for continuous improvement and risk mitigation steps.

  • Report and track all internal HACCP and Food Safety/Food Defense audit/inspection findings in the Agile PQM system to ensure appropriate CAPA measures are completed on time.

  • Monitor all customer and consumer complaint reports applicable to these programs for trending identification, share-out with sister sites, and timely investigation and response support.

  • At Tier 3 meetings, provide weekly program compliance metrics and identify immediate observations in need of action.

  • Provide program training for all on-boarding personnel and continuous site reinforcement training:  FDA regulations, GxP, HACCP, Food Safety/Security, Allergen, and general food safety culture.

  • Drive the food safety plant culture including management of the “see something, say something, do something” reporting program expected from all personnel.

  • Oversee the site pest control, allergen, and glass, ceramic and brittle plastic programs including monitoring following local and Corporate Service Supplier SOP requirements.

  • Perform risk assessment and approval for change control, PM, validation, emergency equipment repairs, sanitation/cleaning, and facility maintenance activities impacting the overall programs and product safety.

  • Continuously evaluate and perform monthly tests on different facets of the facility food defense program and identify areas of improvement.

  • Support Corporate SQM group with new supplier and material qualification steps in the area of HACCP and Food Safety risk assessment.

  • Perform additional duties and projects as required.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience that is likely to provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform the job. Minimum 5 years plant quality experience in food manufacturing covering the disciplines outlined required. Quality Engineering experience and certification preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to interact across multiple departments.

  • High initiative with demonstrated leadership, results achievement, and timeline goals.

  • HACCP/Food Safety certification

  • PCQA Training

  • Knowledge of Quality Systems, cGMPs, GxP, 21 CFR Part 110 & 111, GFSI Standards, HACCP, Food Safety/Food Defense programs.

  • Computer literate and proficient in MS Office.

  • Knowledge of SAP and Agile preferred.

  • Ability to maintain punctuality and predictable attendance.

  • Ability to work in a combination of office and manufacturing conditions; wear appropriate personal protective equipment and clean room attire; perform moderate physical activity, including standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day and up to twelve (12) hours per shift; lift and carry items weighing 50 pounds; and perform work onsite in a light industrial environment, including some exposure to non-toxic dust.
