Role Summary                                                          

This professional has in depth technical knowledge of products, processes and technologies associated with diagnostic devices. They demonstrate a strong understanding of products, antibodies, processes, packaging, test methods and technologies associated with lateral flow products.  Additionally, the individual displays the ability to independently pursue research projects and can serve as a Technical Project Leader for product development.

Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities   

  • Conducts independent research with limited direction from the supervisor.

  • Executes technical work in laboratory, pilot, or manufacturing plant. May receive some support from non-exempt employees.

  • Provides technical advice to R&D.

  • Interfaces with TCE for upstream feasibility / POP initiatives.

  • Provides innovative technology and leadership in solving research problems.

  • Trains and helps subordinate staff in developing experimental design, analyzing data and drawing conclusions.

  • Analyzes data, provides timely reports, and maintains complete and accurate records of experimental studies.

  • Reviews scientific literature to maintain knowledge of new developments in relevant technology.

  • Attends meetings/conferences to maintain and enhance knowledge of relevant technology and expand network.

  • May supervise employees or temporary employees within group.

Education and Experience                                                          

BS, MS, or Phd degree from an accredited institution in chemistry, biochemistry, immunochemistry, or related discipline with 10+ years of industrial experience.

Skills and Competencies

  • Technical and Functional Knowledge

    • Must be experienced in Design Control Requirements for Medical Devices

    • Must have general knowledge of antibody testing devices

    • Practical knowledge of lateral flow assay development a plus

    • Knowledge of female hormone cycles a plus

    • Utilizes experience and creativity to overcome complex technical hurdles.

  • Self Management

    • Uses sound technical judgment to make decisions and meets the project objectives with guidance from supervisor.

    • Plans, designs, and interprets experiments independently with periodic supervisory plan review.

    • Interfaces with project management for project timeline / milestone tracking.

  • Creativity and Innovation

    • Demonstrates ability to innovate in test method and product development

    • Ability to propose new innovations for the product line and show proof of principle

  • Innovative Problem Solving and Risk Management

    • Analyzes results, draws conclusions, and recommends actions.

  • Business Acumen

    • Solid understanding of competitive environment within OTC medical devices.  Getting to know the competition and the impact of strategies and tactics in the marketplace.
